I know if I lose my composure then I could have handled it better. That is respecting my kids even if I need to enforce something they don't like. Sorry that's not really an answer.

@itaotua @motherwounded @cagechattererik I try to see everything through child eyes. It's terribly oppressive to force children to calm down and behave because they are loud and upset. It's childism to dismiss their experience because of how it makes adults feel. We probably wouldn't do that to an adult.

@itaotua @motherwounded @cagechattererik When I correct my children I try to validate their feelings, enforce boundaries when needed, and when possible accomodate their needs because they are humans with real feelings. This is hard. Much harder than just taking things away and spanking.

@itaotua @motherwounded @cagechattererik We need to consider our impact on the child. Consider their feelings. Allow them to have feelings regardless of how it makes adults feel. Realize that your intentions don't matter as much as the impact you have on your children.

@itaotua @motherwounded @cagechattererik If how you treat children would be an unacceptable way to treat your spouse then it's childism. Children can be corrected and properly raised with love and respect without oppressing or abusing them. Like, at all.

@motherwounded You are so right. Connecting with my kids and hearing their struggles works so much better than spanking. I'll never go back. Respect through fear is not respect earned. It's respect taken. I want my kids to know the difference.
