10 August 1972 : Front page of the Uganda Argus. Ugandan President Idi Amin ordered the expulsion of the country's Asian minority, giving them 90 days to leave. Approximately 80,000 people of Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi descent were forced into exile, abandoning their businesses and properties. The mass exodus created a severe refugee crisis, leading to international condemnation and long-term economic collapse in Uganda. The “Asian” population was source to 90% of Uganda’s tax revenue.

18 May 1974 : Pokhran Test Range, Rajasthan : The crater left by India’s first successful nuclear weapon test. The operation was code named Smiling Buddha (or Happy Krishna per American intelligence), having been scheduled to coincide with Buddha Purnima, a festival celebrating Gautama Buddha’s birth. The test was described as a peaceful nuclear explosion (strange as that might sound), and India would not officially have an arsenal until 1998; however, according to Bharat Karnad’s “Nuclear Weapons & India’s Security” (2002), they had already produced 4-5 nuclear bombs by 1979.

@deanetts I read someone say flat coloring in older comics is worse bc it adds little to the line work (i.e. adding depth). I kind of prefer it; the image is easily intelligible even at a distance, seamlessly matches the text boxes, encourages a more carefully selected palette, etc.
