A suspected vehicle theft syndicate was disrupted during a car show event in Benoni, Ekurhuleni, yesterday after security teams and law enforcement identified suspicious activity in the parking area.

Responding units acted swiftly and recovered multiple vehicles that had allegedly been targeted before they could be stolen.

Investigations revealed the suspects arrived in two vehicles.

A Ford Everest linked to the suspects was recovered and searched, leading to the discovery of vehicle computer modules, electronic equipment commonly used in vehicle theft operations, and four sets of false registration plates.

Although the suspects managed to escape, authorities say the operation significantly disrupted the syndicate’s activities.

The operation involved multiple security companies, vehicle tracking specialists, community organisations, and law enforcement agencies working together to prevent the thefts.
