As expected, the ECB hiked rates by 25 basis points—the first increase since 2023.
It would not surprise me if the ECB were to hike again this year, highlighting a world of greater dispersion among systemically important central banks.

@JesseCohenInv Because you don’t understand gold. When inflation occurs interest rates raise. Causing gold to lower. Inflation must be greater than interest rates. When rates drop gold goes up

🚨 BIG WARNING: THE NEXT 36 HOURS WILL DECIDE FATE OF US-IRAN WAR
Today, President Trump gave a 48-hour deadline to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz.
He said Iran's power plants will be fully destroyed if the Strait of Hormuz isn't opened.
Iran's Response?
It will completely close the Strait of Hormuz if any attack happens on its power plants.
This will effectively close 20% of the global oil supply, most of which goes to Asia.
But why does this deadline matter?
This isn't due to the US inability to strike more.
This isn't due to the global oil price spike.
This is all due to bond markets breaking.
US 10Y yield is about to enter the "4.5%" danger zone, which has crushed the stock market in the past.
Trump knows that if the Strait of Hormuz remains mostly closed, bond yields will spike.
In 2026, the US government has to refinance over $9 trillion in debt, and if bond yields continue to go up, the refinancing will cost a lot.
The only way to solve this is by pushing bond yields lower.
Strait of Hormuz opens ➙ Inflation expectations go lower ➙ Fed becomes more willing to cut rates ➙ Bond yields drop ➙ Stock market rallies
And what if Iran keeps the Strait closed?
In that case, stocks and crypto will experience a crash even more brutal than April 2025.
99% of retail traders look at this sea of red and scream that the sky is falling. They try to "predict" the market with emotions and narratives, like cheap fortune tellers. 🔮
Meanwhile, institutional algorithms just see an all-you-can-eat buffet. 🩸
What the masses call a "bloodbath," Quants call a Massive Liquidity Sweep. Wall Street needs this media-induced panic to trigger retail stop-losses in a cascade. That is the only way they can fill their massive order books at a deep discount.
They are buying your fear while you panic-sell. It’s purely mechanical.
Stop playing guessing games. The color of a heatmap means absolutely nothing if you don't understand the Volatility Regime or how to track the Velocity of Displacement (ROC).
If you don't know how to quantify the algorithmic footprint of these purges, you are the exit liquidity. While retail cries over red boxes, we model the institutional injection for the next rotation. 🕵️♂️⚡️
The markets are absolutely ridiculous right now. Gold is behaving even more like a cryptocurrency, oil having the potential to spike in the coming weeks. It’s all over the place. There’s not a lot of liquidity either, it’s just noise and speculation.
We need real trading back.
PRESIDENT TRUMP: “We were told that the killing in Iran is stopping...and there's no plan for executions."
"A lot of people were talking about for the last couple of days — today was going to be the day of execution."
I believe that gold prices can keep climbing north of 5000 per oz. Naturally, the us 30 and spx would also follow.
That being said, price action on XAU was not the greatest with a lot of sell orders sitting @ 4500. Will see what next week brings.
The new year equity rally sees the S&P end the week at a new record high.
This was accompanied by higher oil and gold prices, as well as tighter credit spreads and a stronger dollar.
