Day 3 of expanding @NicheBaby_ lore
Newborn babies can naturally hold their breath underwater for a short time.
They are born with something called the “diving reflex.” When water touches a baby’s face, their body automatically slows the heart rate and closes the airway to help prevent water from entering the lungs.
This reflex fades as they grow older, which is why very young babies sometimes look surprisingly calm in infant swim demonstrations.
