Sister Dora Nginza (1891 - 1966), known as the “Mother of New Brighton", was a nursing sister who was one of the earliest and most influential pioneers of public health service for black people in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa. She received her early education in Cradock. She went on to train as a nurse at the Victoria Hospital, Lovedale in Alice, Eastern Cape during World War I, being one of the first three Black nurses to train under Niel Mac Vicar. She subsequently passed the qualifying SAMDC examination for registration as a nurse at the Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital in 1919. On 20 January 1920 she qualified as a full nurse. In 1923, she married Chief Henry Nginza from the Gcaleka clan. Sister Nginza retired from nursing in 1954 and died in June 1966 at Livingstone Hospital after a short illness at the age of 75. Although not in intense details, through Shevek's experiences and the Odian "way of life" themes on gender, sexuality, labour, ownership, relationships, and sex are quite intriguing in a way it leaves you with a lot to think about on how we are socialized.

I have learnt so much about Afghanistan from reading books authored by Khaled Hosseni. I learnt about Rome from reading Francine Rivers. I love books so much. I love reading fiction.
