Sioux County responders are currently doing damage assessments. If your property has damages from the storms tonight, you can self-report them at this link: https://t.co/stzbFxejy0
1.14.24 SIOUX COUNTY WINTER ROADS UPDATE:
Snowplows and road graders have been at it since before daylight.
Paved routes get first priority followed by gravel roads; if your gravel road remains drifted, they are working hard to get things opened up and crews are asking for your patience. Please give snow removal crews safe distance to get the job done.
Watch for snow-packed areas that are becoming slick and icy. Remember, salt doesn’t work well at these temperatures.
If you do decide that travel is necessary, remember that the temperatures remain dangerous. Dress in layers, keep your vehicle gas tanks filled, keep your cell phone charged, have a travel plan and let others know of departure and arrival times and make sure your winter car kit is along.

For those of you interested in the latest moose-track in Sioux County, it was last seen three miles northeast of Alton.
Thank you and photo credit to Tammy Pickhinke Hansen for sharing with us.

Pause and Remember:
The many who lost their lives on September 11, 2001
The actions that we as a unified nation practiced on September 12 and days following.
The many emergency responders who gave of themselves that day and the years following by living with the effects
🙏🇺🇸
Patriot Day
We all know what we saw on 9/11/2001. It changed this country in more ways than we maybe realized at the time.
But, what about what we saw on September 12? I know what I saw; a nation unified. I heard many “God Bless America” songs sung in many different arenas: on street corners, parking lots, at schools. Our country responded not by buckling to terrorism and terror, but with the level of bravery that we are known for. So what happened between 9/11/2001 and today? That’s the question we all need to ask. Have we forgotten what we need to fight for? Freedom. Not for a political party. Not for an agenda.
Let’s unify for the freedoms we love. Let us always remember the thousands who died that day and in the years after due to so many tragic complications. ❤️🇺🇸💙
On this Patriot Day, I pray we can remember 9/11/2001, but also remember 9/12/2001 and God bless America.

Sioux County is so blessed. We appreciate all of you more than words can say. Thank you.
We hope you can all enjoy a relaxing Labor Day Weekend.

We participated in the ‘Touch-A-Truck’ event held in downtown Orange City this evening. We had a great night interacting with kids (and think we maybe even found some future deputies 😊🚔!!)
Children were able to meet deputies, sit in our vehicles, and the most popular, meet Crisis K9 McGrath! Thank you to Orange City Arts Council, MOPS - Orange City, IA for inviting us to participate! https://t.co/n87UjYUZCc
It was great meeting with @IAGovernor Reynolds, the Northwest Iowa Sheriff group and some area police personnel for a discussion on ideas to improve mental health services and several other topics that affect law enforcement today.
We are blessed to have a Governor who supports and values hearing from law enforcement; we appreciate you. Thanks for showing up and hearing us!
We are looking for this 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and driver regarding a school bus violation that happened south of Rock Valley. Nebraska law enforcement has checked the address it’s registered to and discovered the address does not exist.
Please check around your communities for this vehicle and let us know if you find it.
With this extreme heat, PLEASE take the time to look in your backseat for your little people before you lock the car. It seems impossible to forget, but with varied and busy schedules, sadly, it happens far too often. #heatwave#CheckForBaby#ParkLookLock
Headlights “manually on” in the fog, Sioux County!
Be safe; remind other motorists in your household. With the setting of automatic headlights, it’s an easy thing to forget.
*Dense fog PSA*
To the drivers like the one in the top picture, thank you! To the drivers like the one in the bottom picture; please, manually turn on those headlights.

Tough week here in Sioux County for some of our fire, EMS & law enforcement family; also for those who are their support system. If you are one to pray, please take a moment to do that & also for the families & friends of those lost; thank you. Respectfully,
Sheriff Van Voorst
Sheriff Van Voorst met with Del Walinga to accept a $2,500 check from Modern Woodmen of America. This was a result of the May 8 matching funds event at the Pizza Ranch. The funds are being used to fund our first ever crisis/therapy K9! Thank you to all who gave to this project!
May we always remember the lives lost when allied soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy on this day. Let us not forget the sacrifice of thousands to preserve our freedoms. 🇺🇸
