Consumption is a rational thing that’s is informed primarily by the amount of utility a consumer derives from a commodity.

You can’t tell people what to consume. Instead, you can either encourage or discourage consumption through fiscal means. If government feels the need to promote local consumption, then foreign goods should be banned to streamline options available to consumers. But you ask yourself, can we do that now? What is the local substitute for as basic as Panadol?
