Before entering Esports full time, I worked for more than ten years in the corporate world and rose to the regional level, there were several large company projects in the Asian region that I managed and in those projects, HR Managers from other countries would report to me.

While working, while studying. I have a Diploma in Mass Communications, Degree in Communications, Masters in HR and am currently taking a PhD in Psychology.

Not to brag, but to share where all that has helped me dabble in the world of Esports full time.

If you want to enter the Esports world, there is no easy way, you have to work hard to make your own steps because there is no straight path.

Example of a straight path - Want to be an Engineer, graduate Engineering Degree, Internship in Engineering, look for a fresh grad engineering job, get it. There are even many career fairs to help you get info.

How to sketch your own steps? This question can be answered with critical thinking skills because everyone's journey is different.

While pro players can take "study leave" why do we have to leave studies?

Communication is not only about speaking. It is also about listening, responding, and understanding how the people around us may feel.

I recently had the pleasure of conducting an esports-based communication workshop for a group of primary school students from SJK (C) Nan Kai.

Naturally, some students were more skilled at gaming than others, but winning was never the main objective. A team does not become effective simply because it has the strongest players. It becomes effective when its members communicate clearly, listen to one another, respond constructively, and make decisions together.

Some of these students aspire to compete at inter-school level. While mechanical skills and game knowledge are important, communication is just as fundamental. It is what transforms individual talent into collective strength.

I was encouraged by how engaged the students were and how openly they reflected on what they could improve. They left not only thinking about how to play better, but also how to become better teammates. Seeing them speak their minds confidently while learning to listen to others gives me a positive outlook on our future generation.

Esports continues to be a meaningful way to connect with young people while teaching essential life skills that extend far beyond the game.

Curiosity can lead young people towards discovery and purpose but without the right support, it can also expose them to harmful influences.

I joined @IkutoRadzi for the fireside chat, “From Curiosity to Action,” at the ENGAGE programme. The session brought together law enforcement officers, government officials, educators, cybersecurity professionals and foreign affairs representatives from across Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

I shared how attachment theory helps us understand the importance of safe, dependable relationships. While policies and enforcement are essential, they take time. A more immediate intervention is to create safe spaces where young people can express themselves without fear of judgment.

As parents, siblings, friends, mentors and community members, we share the responsibility to listen, build trust and guide their curiosity towards a positive spark.
