Hon. Minister Dr Haidar spoke at the @Global_LMC Roundtable this morning, emphasizing the crucial role of skills development and job creation in the Maldives. He highlighted initiatives like sector councils to identify and develop specialized local skills across sectors like tourism, fisheries, ICT, and renewable energy.
Dr Haidar acknowledged the challenges faced by a young population in a tourism-dependent economy, emphasizing the importance of relevant education, employment opportunities, and skills training. He also outlined key achievements, including the free undergraduate degree program, targeted skills development initiatives, and a fully automated job-matching platform to enhance youth employability.
Looking ahead, Dr Haidar reiterated the commitment to building a resilient labour market by strengthening policies, fostering collaborations, and investing in human capital.
