In 2021, Shane Munina, a dancer and choreographer launched @TheLocalGetDown (LGD), a freestyle dance space where dance artists learn, showcase their talents and network. The Local Get Down Freestyle Dance Battles followed soon after, a high-energy and faith-driven battle that made LGD a household name.

On 10th May, 2025, the 4th Edition of the LGD Freestyle Dance Battles returns, with many dance artists hoping to battle it out for the ultimate dance championship belt. Dance spaces like these ensure that Uganda’s creative industry remains active and provides an avenue for young people to practice, learn and earn from their creativity.
