I'm the big bridge that takes I-275 from Palmetto to St. Pete. I don't like talking about what happened to my father. This is not endorsed by FDOT. GO BUCS!
Other important things:
1.if you’re going near a mall, prepare for delays. It’s Florida, we still mall.
2. People are more tired than usual. this means more low speed silly accidents. You have insurance. Don’t flip out.
3. SunPass makes life easier. No really.
Hi Florida.
It’s that time of year. Snowbirds, tourists, and people visiting family who don’t know Florida.
Please be Floridian on the roads. Show kindness, remember that rental car is probably lost, and…listen snowbirds pay sales tax. Keeps it cheaper for us all year types.
Remember that conditions are still extremely fluid if you venture out anywhere near the affected areas. 511 before you go to be sure you don’t have detours.
Be careful about twisting waze or maps. If you see Highway info flashing pause Tom Cochrane and tune in: it is important!
Keep an eye out for price gouging. Check on your neighbors.
Remember that a generator is for outside and 20 feet from your house; elevated if you can and yeah Florida man NEVER IN WATER.
Keep your patience up. It’s a new week; we’re gonna be out of the national spotlight.
Hi. How we doing?
Tom, gonna need to have a talk about last night.
I hear more of Charlotte and Lee Counties and the messy parts of Sarasota are on the mend.
So. There’s still a load of traffic lights out. A friendly reminder: that means FOUR WAY STOP in Florida.
Oh and old hand hurricane advice: the radio is your best friend right now. Mostly powering through all relevant info in Spanish and English in 30-60 minutes. Good use of data transfer.
Right now…chill, gather data, chill with a beverage of your choice.
County Sheriff can do checks but don’t ask for checks on people who were like way inland and are just in a no power area as yet. Better or worse they know on the ground realities.
Thank you again to FDOT for absolutely rolling the second Ian left town. You’re heroes.
Okay. We’re in that bad place where a lack of power messes up communication and then sort the rest of it.
Right now, stick to your trusted sources. Show extra kindness to firefighters/EMTs and linemen, remember they’re extra busy.
Don’t spread scuttlebutt. It’s bad but…
…the situation is highly fluid and false info is dangerous in a vacuum.
The person who types for this somehow has everyone fine. Some of whom evacuated for the first time this storm.
Florida…we can do this, but right now listen to emergency management. You made it.
Be patient. Be prudent with water, whether or not you’re under restrictions
Don’t panic. Don’t jump to the worst conclusions as yet without evidence. More people are okay than your relatives on Long Island think.
Be kind. It’s free and how we get through this.
If you see a line going into water: assume that water is electrified. Don’t touch it.
If you see standing water: don’t go over your car’s intake.
In both caes right now you know what? Don’t do it. Turn around.
Govt FDOT and linemen a ton of space. These are the cavalry.
Hey Florida.
It’s…not great. I’m here. Anyone seen if the I-4 Eyesore made it? We believe…
Uh anyways. SERT has your back. Stay off the roads to the best of your ability. Don’t touch power lines. All lines are live until you are explicitly told otherwise.
@FL_Chelle I mean, it is Florida. We’re a little off.
It is also Florida. We know better.
That said…now that it’s gone, everyone’s checking the FP+L webpage to see if (insert your liquor store name here) has electricity.
Greatest place on earth.
One more thing:
The eye of the storm is brief respite. Don’t mess around with it too much or too long, as the strongest winds return.
You don’t have time to go to the store.
Please don’t do that. They’re closed anyways.
@MaryMercurio1 Ow ow ow ow ow ow.
FDOT is out checking me over good. Ow.
However, I remain. FDOT is rolling all over the state and assists are streaming in.
Why don’t they have Hurricane cake for bridges?
If you’re not a professional assume any line down is hot and assume any line going into water is hot. There’s a ton of linemen who can handle that safely ready to go.
Don’t run your AC on full blast on the generator. Stick to needs.
You are better at this than you think.
So…
If you have a generator be sure it’s outside and raised.
If you’re cooking with gas and hand lighting it remember the 3 second 3 minute rule. If it doesn’t light in 3 seconds turn it off wait 3 minutes.
Keep screen brightness down if you’re on batteries.
OW.
Stay safe and hunker down everyone. Bridges (other than me) are replaceable. Roads (other than Ulmerton) are replaceable.
You and yours are not.
Floridians help each other. We keep each other safe. And after this I hear the chicken finger sub is on sale in 2 weeks…
