When youβre down and out
When life throws daggers
When you feel youβll never see
The light of Joy
Keep holding on
Steadfast to the message:
Winning is your birthright.
#SlamWords#76ed#rd5#encore
I refuse
to keep holding on
to yesterday.
But the shadows are there
Becoming invasive until itβs
infused in the very breaths
I take.
I wonβt stop breathing
so I answer the past
with a sigh.

Growing up they called me Pippi Longstockings:
I was too wild,
too reckless,
had too many freckles.
I haven't changed much.
#SlamWords#76thEdition#encore round 4 #amwriting
As the years become decades
And their faces start to fade
Into the mists of yesterday,
I keep holding on to the feeling
Of joy when they were here.
I write a song of Love,
Tale keeper of family lore
As new stars begin to shine
In the heavens above.

#SlamWords#encore round 4
We always thought
Of growing up
How great all that would be
Doing what we wanted
Old enough and free
Suddenly it happened
Sometimes was good in parts
Often it was all too much
With sadness
And broken hearts
#SlamWords#encore round 3
Burdened with thoughts
Of back in the day
Times were better then
Free of pain from ageing
Fun and laughter when
Summer held a fervour
Winter could stay at minus 10
we reach the edge
of our destiny
stepping off
we leap
you're still holding on
but I'm ready
our hands slip
I am released
you watch me fall
into infinity

why keep holding on to promises, like roses, wilted,
petals have rusted, and gratefully fallen graveward,
let it go, and clear the head, with a benevolent sun,
holding on to holding on, is clinging to spent ash.
