Little South African Esports advice:
This past weekend @HouseofEsports4 ran a COD tournament at @Lanx_xpo_gaming
Entry fee was R2000 per team and according to their promotion the prize pool was at R14 000 "so far". After the event they allegedly announced there was no prize pool as @Lanx_xpo_gaming hadn't sold enough tickets. Despite teams flying in from around the country & paying said entry fee.
I see ZA Esports raging on X. That's great. The amount is too small for you to really pursue this legally. But I'd like to suggest reaching out to the sponsors all over the marketing material posted by both these organisations. They've endorsed these competitions. They've paid these entities and you'd presume, as "sponsors" their costing included the so called prizes of these events.
Also speak with your feet now. If those local brands aren't willing to hold their business partners to account ask yourself why you should be giving them your cash moving forward. Same goes for the "personalities" who spent the weekend at said LAN promoting it asking folks to spend money and pitch up.
This has happened before and it will happen again UNTIL you, as a community, stand together & hold these "role players" to account. Also, seriously, any TO wanting "entry fees" - avoid. They almost never have the capital to do this properly.
Be transparent with us and maybe we can be sympathetic if its justifiable. Don't take our money make a bad excuse at paytime and then call us unappreciative. Why advertise something you are not sure is feasible?
Ok @HouseofEsports4 now you just talking straight kak. How do you organize a lan (A terribly organized one at that) charge a R2000 entrance fee per team, promise a R14 000 prize pool, say you have sponsors helping out and only once its time to pay winners you backtrack and 1/3
Only then decide to communicate to everyone only to tell us no prize money is available and that "Something" out of your control happened. Who planned the event? Who did the calculations and still decided to go through with an event thats going to make a loss? 2/3
Disgraceful to false advertise a 14k prize pool and it costed 2k entry fee per team. Had to make so many arrangements for transport with family and was alot of effort to bring our own equipment. Very poor from your side @HouseofEsports4
Imagine paying 2k to be part of a LAN with a 14k prize pool. Only for the hosts to decide to take the money and use it to cover costs after advertising and promising a 14k prize pool. Rather just cancel the event. Scummy @HouseofEsports4
