Falcon 9 is seen using auxiliary propulsion rocket engines placed on top of the rocket to give more thrust on the ride to orbit. The system produces an extra 50kN of thrust, equal to the weight of 16,000 African swallows.

To speed up the development of space shuttle Colombia, NASA used a 1:3 scale model of the rocketplane to simulate the landings. The model, nicknamed Enterprize, was carried on top of a modified F-15 fighter-bomber, then released at altitude and allowed to glide to a landing.

The Columbia spacecraft is seen right after being stacked onto the launchpad for the Apollo 21 mission. The craft is stacked using the crane on the "Robozilla" tower, which pulls it from the VAB and onto the launchpad using an aerospace grade fishing line.
