Charles Blow is right and more people should do this. Stop entertaining these lies, stop taking the people who spew them seriously, and just call them what they are: liars
I feel strongly about this: journalists have an ethical responsibility to call these election lies what they are. We just stop hiding behind the euphemistic “without proof.” Or democracy is fragile and under assault. Patrician journalistic niceties serve no one is a moment of crisis, not even journalism. We are called to reveal and convey truth. It starts with every interaction. It starts in the moment. It starts to their faces. It feels good to be free to do what I think is right.
This is a well-coordinated campaign by Trump and the Republican party to cast doubt on American elections. They are trying to destroy Americans' trust in voters and elections.
FACT: Trump cut funding to stop the spread of screwworms. Then he signed an executive order allowing 100,000 metric tons of beef from Argentina into the U.S. per year. America eradicated screwworms in 1966, while Argentina has been struggling with them for well over a century.
The Trump Admin cut funding for screwworm detection and fired 25% of staff responsible for tracking the disease.
I’m embarrassed for the Secretary that her only answer is to blame the administration that left office a year and a half ago.
