JUST IN: Giraffe Energy, co-owned by the publicly listed Sintana Energy Inc. and a pioneering player in Namibia’s emerging oil and gas sector, has signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) in which founder Knowledge Katti will allocate his personal 10% equity stake to a youth empowerment trust in the //Karas Region, the company announced on Thursday.
The move — accompanied by a N$1 million cash donation — is being positioned as an early step towards meaningful youth participation in Namibia’s nascent oil and gas industry. It coincides with Katti’s birthday and follows his previous N$1 million donation to employees of the Kombat mine, which he co-owns.
Under the agreement with the //Karas Region Youth Empowerment Trust, the equity will be channelled to give young people in the region a stake in Giraffe Energy’s assets, including its 33% holding in Petroleum Exploration Licence (PEL) 79 in the Orange Basin. The licence is operated by Namcor, which holds the remaining 67%, the company said.
“This is more than a deal; it’s a catalyst for transformation,” Katti said in a statement, describing the allocation as a platform to equip youth “to learn the industry, collaborate with operators, and advocate for their communities’ needs.”
The company added that the initiative aims to couple equity participation with practical exposure — from seismic acquisition and interpretation to drilling and production — while addressing priorities such as education, training and jobs.
My grandpa told me that in the old days, TV channels would stop broadcasting around midnight. They'd play the national anthem and then go completely off air until morning. Is that real, or is he messing with me?
