This is a turning bay on SH16 built as apart of NZTA's Brigham Creek to Waimauku project. There are 4 like this within 2km.

NZTA went to court twice to defend compulsorily acquiring land to build these turning bays.

All are unused.

@TimAirbusx @flightradar24 That's assuming it was intentional. There are plenty of examples in commercial aviation of aircraft taking off on the wrong runway or from the wrong intersection. I'm not saying that's what's happened, I'm just saying the ADS-B data make it look like that.
