Rosé's shoes sold out too... The real reason Puma is hooked on Seoul
A prime example is BLACKPINK's Rosé and the low-profile sneaker 'Speedcat'. Puma selected Rosé as a global brand ambassador in June 2024. This decision was made four months before the release of her global hit song 'APT.'. After ' APT .' became a hit on global music charts in October of the same year , the Speedcat and Palermo sneakers worn by Rosé in the Puma campaign subsequently sold out. This is cited as a case where the trends of the K-pop market were captured early and connected to global marketing.
Puma recognized the potential for a resurgence in low-profile sneakers and launched its Speedcat marketing campaign in Seoul in the first half of 2024 , ahead of other countries. According to the company , key products such as the 'Speedcat OG Sparco' and 'Speedcat LS' sold out within 40 minutes of launch on Puma's official online store and within 15 minutes on Musinsa .
Having confirmed the response in the Korean market, Puma headquarters expanded the Speedcat campaign to the global market. The 'Speedcat Valet,' introduced last year, generated 600 million won in sales within just 10 minutes of its release on Musinsa. The ' H- Street,' selected to continue the low-profile trend, also held its first launch event in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, last May.
