Religious matters require the utmost sensitivity and wisdom. They cannot and should not be handled through administrative directives.
To begin with, the Waqf Board should not have proposed uniform themes for Friday sermons across mosques and religious institutions in the Valley without first consulting religious leaders and seeking wider public opinion.
Kashmir is home to many respected religious scholars and leaders who enjoy public trust and confidence. Platforms like the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) provide an important forum for religious leaders to discuss and deliberate on sensitive matters.
Waqf Board must remain mindful of the Valley’s religious sensitivities and refrain from taking any steps that could hurt public sentiments or create unnecessary controversy.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Sardar Harbans Singh Ji, a senior NC leader and former Cabinet Minister, who passed away today in Jammu.
May the departed soul rest in eternal peace, and may Almighty grant the bereaved family strength and patience to bear this immense loss.
Saddened by the tragic death of a woman in a fire incident at Noorbagh, Srinagar. As the fire engulfed her three-storey residential house, she jumped from the building in an attempt to save her life but tragically lost her life.
My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May Almighty Allah grant them strength and patience to bear this immense loss, and may the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
The missile attack on Riyadh International Airport, which left at least 12 people dead and 300 injured, is deeply alarming.
The fact that this is the third attack on the airport this week makes the situation even more concerning.
Targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure is a clear violation of international law and must be unequivocally condemned.
Saddened to know that the devastating hailstorm on Thursday has severely damaged standing crops and orchards across several villages in North and South Kashmir, particularly in parts of Sopore and Shopian.
The damage to apple crops is especially distressing, as it comes just weeks before orchardists were preparing for the peak harvesting season, hoping to reap the rewards of their hard work.
Another heartbreaking report has come from Sempora Sopore, where a major apple storage shed filled with harvested produce was gutted in a fire triggered by a short circuit in a power transformer amid rain and gusty winds, leaving the affected orchardist in deep distress. This incident has caused huge financial losses for a local fruit grower.
I urge the authorities to assess the losses promptly and ensure adequate compensation to the affected farmers and orchardists to help them recover from these devastating losses, which have severely impacted their livelihoods.
My warm greetings to the people of the Valley and beyond on the auspicious occasion of the annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani, Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA).
On this sacred occasion, I urge devotees visiting the revered shrine at Charar-i-Sharief to pray for lasting peace, prosperity, and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
My thoughts and prayers are with my senior party colleague, Raja Manzoor Sahib, former MLA and the party’s District President for Kupwara, who suffered a heart attack today.
I pray for his complete and speedy recovery and for his strength and good health.
Although I am presently out of the country, I stand with Raja Manzoor Sahib and his family during this difficult and testing time and share their concern.
May Almighty Allah bless him with Shifa-e-Kamila.
The desperate attempt by a ruling party leader and Chief Minister’s advisor to brush aside my recent revelation about the purchase of land on the outskirts of Srinagar by a non-domicile for hotel construction only raises more serious questions.
Instead of trying to downplay the matter, the government must give clear answers:
Who allowed a non-domicile to purchase this land?
Who facilitated the deal?
Who processed and approved the revenue records?
And, who authorised the transaction?
Revenue Department is under the direct control of the Chief Minister. Therefore, the government cannot evade responsibility or hide behind political statements.
People deserve to know how such a land purchase was allowed in the first place.
If the purchase has taken place in violation of the existing domicile and land laws, those responsible for facilitating or enabling it must be identified and held accountable.
The government must come clean, order a transparent inquiry, and make the findings public, in the larger intrest of J&K and its people.
Warm greetings to everyone on Gandhi Jayanti.
Today, we honour Mahatma Gandhi and reaffirm his timeless values of truth, non-violence, peace, justice, and human dignity.
His life reminds us that lasting change can be achieved through courage, compassion, and peaceful means.
On this Gandhi Jayanti, let us renew our commitment to building a peaceful, inclusive, and harmonious society founded on these enduring values.
My deepest sympathies are with the families who have lost their homes and everything they possessed in the devastating fire incident in Warwan, Kishtwar.
Several residential houses have been reduced to ashes in this tragic incident, leaving the affected families devastated and without shelter and basic necessities.
The administration must step forward and provide immediate relief and assistance to the affected families. This should be followed by adequate compensation to help them rebuild their homes and lives.
In this hour of immense grief and hardship, I stand firmly with the affected families and share their pain and suffering.
Remembering Moulana Iftikhar Hussain Ansari Sahib with great respect and reverence on his 12th death anniversary.
He was undoubtedly a distinguished religious scholar and a seasoned political leader who devoted his entire life to serving the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
His valuable contributions to society, and efforts to promote mutual understanding among people belonging to different sects will always be remembered with respect and admiration.
May Almighty Allah bless his soul and elevate his ranks in Jannatul Firdous. Ameen.
Shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the tragic accident at Semari in Karnah, which claimed the lives of five people including a nine-month-old baby girl.
This is a heartbreaking tragedy. I am deeply grieved by the loss of precious lives and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families in this hour of immense grief.
May Almighty Allah grant them patience and strength to bear this irreparable loss.
May Allah bless the departed souls with eternal peace and grant them the highest place in Jannah.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to the party’s spokesperson Ishrat Bhat and other members of her family on the demise of her grandfather.
The deceased Ghulam Rasool Bhat, a resident of Lalpora Bhatpora in Kupwara, passed away today.
In this hour of grief, I stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and pray that Almighty Allah grants the departed soul eternal peace and the highest place in Jannah.
Paid obeisance at the revered shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani (Dastageer Sahib) at Khanyar, Srinagar, where the annual Urs is being observed and a Shab is being held tonight.
Being at such a sacred and spiritually significant place is always a deeply humbling and peaceful experience.
I prayed for lasting peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir, and for the well-being and prosperity of its people.
Meanwhile, it was heartening to witness the visible development and improvements carried out within the shrine premises.
Such initiatives not only provide better facilities and a more comfortable experience for devotees, but also contribute to preserving and strengthening our rich spiritual and cultural heritage. I must acknowledge the contribution of Waqf Chairperson Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi towards improving and developing shrines across Jammu and Kashmir.
I extend my warm greetings to my esteemed colleague and the party’s District President Shopian, Advocate Gowhar Hussain Wani, on his re-election as President of the District Bar Association Shopian.
His re-election is a clear recognition of his professional competence, leadership qualities, and integrity.
I congratulate him on this well-deserved achievement and wish him continued success in his professional and public life.
I am sure that he will continue to serve the people with dedication and distinction, as a dynamic politician and as an accomplished lawyer.
Srinagar city is not suffering from a lack of plans or ambitious visions. The real problem is weak implementation, poor coordination, and a lack of accountability.
Despite having development plans that extend up to 2035, people on the ground continue to face waterlogging, traffic congestion, inadequate pedestrian facilities, poor waste management, and many other basic urban problems.
What people need now is action, not more promises or plans. Srinagar deserves development that people can see, feel, and experience in their daily lives, not development that exists only on paper.
The brutal killing of newspaper hawker Deepak Sharma inside his home in Jammu City is shocking and deeply disturbing.
Such a heinous crime is a serious cause for concern.
I am sure that the law-enforcement agencies will act swiftly and bring those responsible to justice at the earliest.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
During a party review meeting in Jammu, my colleagues from Rajouri brought to my attention serious concerns regarding the functioning of the GMC Associated Hospital in Rajouri, one of the J&K's important healthcare institutions serving a large population, including people living in remote and border areas.
The feedback received from the ground points to several issues that require urgent attention.
These issues include shortages of doctors and paramedical staff, delays in making medical equipment fully operational, long waiting periods for surgeries and diagnostic tests, and concerns over the quality and availability of patient care.
There are also allegations that intermediaries are approaching patients and encouraging them to seek treatment at private healthcare facilities, where some procedures are reportedly made available in a shorter time. The people are raising concerns about possible links between certain medical personnel and private establishments.
Such allegations are particularly serious because the people who depend most on government hospitals are often from poor, remote and economically weaker sections of society. They cannot afford to travel repeatedly or pay for costly treatment in private facilities after waiting for weeks or months in a government hospital.
One of the serious complaints is regarding the treatment of women who come to the hospital for childbirth. Allegations are that such women arriving at this healthcare institution are treated with required dignity, sensitivity, care and compassion. Any behaviour or practice falling short of these basic standards must be examined seriously.
Concerns have also been raised about diagnostic services, including a reported case where there was a significant difference between the results of a test conducted at the government hospital and a subsequent test carried out at a private facility.
Such complaints cannot simply be ignored and deserve an impartial examination.
I have full confidence in the feedback shared by my colleagues, as it has come directly from the grassroots and reflects concerns being raised by people on the ground. At the same time, these are serious allegations and must be established through a fair and impartial inquiry.
I strongly urge the government to order a high-level probe into the functioning of GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri and examine each of these complaints in a time-bound manner.
If anyone is found responsible for negligence, misconduct or any other wrongdoing, strict action must follow.
Government hospitals are meant to provide reliable and affordable healthcare, particularly to those who cannot afford private treatment.
There must be no shortage of doctors, paramedical staff, medicines or functional equipment, and there must be zero tolerance for corruption, negligence or practices that compromise patient care.
Government must ensure that every person entering a public hospital in Jammu and Kashmir receives timely treatment, proper care and respect, regardless of their financial or social background. No patient should ever be forced to suffer because of administrative failure, lack of resources or vested interests.

Saddened to hear about the demise of veteran journalist and Editor of Morning Times, Syed Bashir Ahmad Simnaani Sahib.
His passing is a great loss to the journalistic fraternity and society at large. His contributions to journalism in J&K will be remembered with respect.
May Almighty Allah grant his soul eternal peace and the highest place in Jannah.
