Ten families in Nongoma received fully furnished houses last week, marking the completion of the second phase of the IFP-Led KZN Cogta Disaster Housing Programme.

COGTA MEC, IFP's Hon Rev. Thulasizwe Buthelezi officially handed over the homes, which included rondavels, to families displaced by heavy rains and a crater in April 2025. The initiative not only provided shelter but also restored dignity, with additional rondavels built to give children their own private spaces.

IFP Youth Brigade National Secretary, IFP Mayoral Candidate for the City of Johannesburg and MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Mlungisi “Black Rock” Mabaso, together with the Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane; Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara; and City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Cllr Dada Morero, handed over 163 Breaking New Ground (BNG) houses as part of the 868 homes being delivered at the Lufhereng Presidential Priority Project.

Once fully completed, the Lufhereng Mega Project is expected to deliver 32,000 housing units. To date, approximately 5,000 units have been completed, including BNG houses, bonded homes, social housing and homes for military veterans.
