HISTORY MADE
The Philippines is heading to the World Cup, led with distinction by an Australian whose influence has been truly remarkable.
We, the St Monicas College community, offer our sincere congratulations to Mark Torcaso, an exceptional leader of football at our College and an outstanding man whose determination, integrity, and unwavering commitment have guided the team to this historic achievement.
Marks professionalism, strategic direction, and deep passion for the game have elevated his players and inspired supporters across an entire nation.
This achievement is more than a sporting success. It is a moment that will shape the future of football and stands as a powerful example of what can be accomplished through dedication, belief, and purposeful leadership.
Mark, you have achieved something extraordinary, and we, the SMC community, are immensely proud of you. You have earned every part of this moment.
A Historic Moment for St Monica’s College Epping and the Philippines.
We are extremely proud of our very own leader of sport at St Monica’s College Epping, who is now part of a remarkable and historic achievement with the Philippine National Women’s Team. Their qualification for the quarter finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup marks a significant milestone for Philippine football and reflects the dedication, discipline, and belief that have driven this team forward.
The Filipinas reached the quarter finals as one of the best third‑placed teams in the tournament, progressing on goal difference after Japan’s victory over Vietnam confirmed their place. This achievement also secured their entry into the 2028 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, demonstrating the rapid growth and rising competitiveness of the program.
Their next challenge is Japan, the highest ranked team in Asia and a dominant force in the competition. Japan has entered the knockout stage with three wins, no goals conceded, and a reputation for consistency and precision. It will be a demanding match, but it also highlights how far the Philippines has come to stand among the best teams in the region. A win would secure a direct place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, and even in defeat, the Filipinas will still have another opportunity to qualify in a play‑in match against the loser of South Korea and Uzbekistan.
Throughout this journey, our leader from St Monica’s College Epping has contributed to a team known for its resilience, unity, and strong work ethic. His path from guiding young athletes in our community to helping shape a national team on the international stage is an achievement that inspires great pride. His leadership has played a role in building a culture that values discipline, teamwork, and belief in what is possible.
We wish him every success as the Filipinas continue their pursuit of a World Cup place. The entire St Monica’s College Epping community stands proudly behind him and celebrates this historic moment with admiration and gratitude.
Year 12 Legal Studies students attended the County Court on Monday, 23 February and Thursday, 26 February.
During their visit, students had the valuable opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with a County Court judge and observe real court proceedings in session.
Our students conducted themselves with maturity and respect, and they were highly praised by County Court staff for their exemplary behaviour.
Thank you to the Class of 2021 for a wonderful reunion last night. With up to 150 Monicans in attendance, it was a fantastic evening of connection, reflection, and shared memories.
It was truly great to see you all and to hear about the many paths you have taken since leaving the College.
We are grateful for the strong sense of community you continue to carry and look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.
Wishing our very own Mark Torcaso all the best as the Filipinas take on Australia in the Women’s Asian Cup opener!
From rebuilding the squad to nurturing young talent and pushing the team to new heights, Mark has shown what true leadership looks like. All the best Mark.

Connecting With Our School Chickens
Early this term our students have been spending time observing and interacting with our school chickens, taking a closer look at their behaviour and the conditions that help them feel safe and comfortable.
They have worked together to come up with practical ways to enrich the chickens’ environment - from new perches and foraging opportunities to fresh herbs and other features that support natural behaviours.
It is inspiring to see students thinking critically about animal care, engaging with nature, and taking responsibility for improving the wellbeing of the animals in our school community.
