Hot take: it's not an executive's job to understand your social media strategy.
It's your job to sell your social media strategy to the executive.
I hear farrrr too many social pros get frustrated that their company's leaders don't let them initiate the content and strategies they're most excited about. Don't get me wrongโI've had some clients & bosses who were truly impossibleโbut the biggest shift in my career was when I decided to never, ever blame anyone but me for my ideas not getting sold.
If I wanted to make my own social ideas, it was 100% my job to sell them in a way that got approved. If my first try didn't work? I'd try a different approach! Maybe it was me pre-vetting ideas on the side, or getting other people to get excited and mention it to the boss before I event presented. There are allllll kinds of ways to sell your social ideas.
I'll get into HOW I did this in future posts (so hit the follow button, plz), but I'm curious how you've handled getting people to buy your ideas!
