Urgent Concern Over the Relocation of Displaced Fulani Persons to NYSC Camp, Ipata (Edu LGA)

We, the peace-loving and law-abiding people of Edu Local Government Area in Kwara North, wish to formally express our deep concern regarding the recent relocation and movement of displaced Fulani persons from Kwara South to the NYSC Camp in Ipata, Edu Local Government Area.

We are aware that the displaced persons have already been moved to the camp. While we recognize the humanitarian responsibility of government to provide shelter and assistance to vulnerable citizens, we must respectfully state that Edu and neighboring Patigi Local Government Area are currently facing serious security challenges.

Our communities have been experiencing frequent attacks, banditry, and kidnapping. Many of our people are living in fear, and several communities are not safe. The security situation in Kwara North remains fragile, and our local security architecture is already overstretched.

Your Excellency, we sincerely appeal for your understanding. At this critical time, establishing an IDP camp in Edu LGA has heightened tension and anxiety among residents. We believe that Ilorin, being comparatively more secure and having stronger security presence and infrastructure, would be a more suitable location for such a camp.

Our position is not based on hatred, discrimination, or lack of compassion. We sympathize with every displaced person and support lawful efforts to protect lives. However, the safety and peace of host communities must also be considered.

We respectfully call on the Kwara State Government to urgently review this relocation decision and take necessary steps to ensure that Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas are not further exposed to security risks.

We seek peace, security, and stability for all parts of Kwara State.
