Visas/ UK

Yesterday I dropped my son at the airport because he heading to London(UK) for a marketing aboard @UG_Airlines

As he checks in, he realizes he still needed an English visa even when he holds an American passport.

Calls me and says dad, don’t leave Entebbe until I call you, he applies for a visa which cost him usd 78 and within 20 minutes he had his English visa.

I remembered him telling me to get a passport of another country that allows me flexible travel even I love my country.

I drove Kampala to thinking deeply about how an Ugandan business person clearly has very little chances. He can’t compete at a bigger level.

Visas are clearly trade barriers, I couldn’t even think about heading to the airport carrying an Ugandan passport without a visa.

A foreigner living and working in uganda will redeem time just by the flexibility he gets in pushing international business, when he wants to return to uganda, easy!

I applied for an Irish visa on Monday last week after preparing for almost a whole week the previous week, only got my passport on Friday with a 5 day visa.

The truth is an economy is a composition of many businesses and if it doesn’t work, a country suffers, it’s a country’s business persons that elevate an economy.

If you aren’t doing business with bigger economies, you will be borrowing or begging for aid or both like us, those options sink you as a nation.

For @UG_Airlines to succeed on the London route, we need a few things looked into.

1- get ride of the negative travel advisory on Uganda by the UK Government b’se nullifies insurance hence interest in UGanda

2- aggressive marketing of Uganda in the UK, we only get around 11k travels from the UK and yet our highest out of the 50 countries that form Europe.

3- Online visa application affects Ugandans carrying foreign passport just like it affects tourists who want to fly to Uganda. I recommend we go back to visas on arrival.

Without the above, @UG_Airlines even with brand new planes, good service, we shall never get even 10% of the numbers that go to either Kenya or Tanzania.
