Abdul El-Sayed: “Every dollar we send abroad to drop a bomb on another kid is a dollar we don’t spend here to invest in your kid’s school or your healthcare. The reason our economy is rigged so we have a trillionaire and the average person can’t afford their basic life is because we have an economy where we’ve allowed big corporations to buy and sell politicians to rig the system against us”
I gotta a great plan, folks, they call it the Five Year Plan but I think we can do it in Four, maybe Three. A big guy came up to me, a steal worker straight out of central casting, muscles like you've never seen, handsome. He had tears in his eyes, "Sir, we're all eager to work 16 hours a day to meet the plan."
I didn’t say what Susan Collins did is criminal. I said it SHOULD be criminal.
She got incredibly wealthy, funneling taxpayer money to her husband & profiting off stock trading while in office (violating the STOCK Act 25 times).
In a reasonable society, that would be criminal. Unfortunately, corrupt politicians like her still write our laws.
America should have a universal job guarantee. We have so much work to do as a country. We should have centers that I can show up to at 7am with my ID and get assigned work for the day. Trash clean up, food pantry distribution I mean the possibilities are endless
Listening to NPR interview a Georgia voter this am, who rated Trump A+ and was asked how he was managing higher food prices. His answer: My wife and I fast.
Trump on Iran War:
Reporter: What extent are Americans’ financial situation motivating you to make a deal?
Trump: Not even a little bit. I don't think about Americans’ financial situation

Virginia’s voter-approved maps thrown out.
MAGA has rigged the system.
From a couple of hours ago. This is where redistricting ends up. Republicans, after looking like they would lose or draw the redistricting war, have won it. Because Republicans can do whatever the hell they want in red states, and Democrats have to tie their shoes in handcuffs in blue states.
Imagining explaining to the Founding Fathers that the president imposed tariffs without an act of Congress and then removed them at the request of the King of England
I actually think it's useful to have a naif-like outlet start covering Washington and discover basic things like the Congressional calendar, which most reporters here take for granted and which many regular people would, in fact, find surprising/strange/bad.
When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.
Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.
the future is just an endless churn of adapting your consumption habits to whatever venture-capital-backed seller is currently selling at a loss to capture market share
TOM BRADY ON FOX: “I can’t pick between the Seahawks and Pats. May the best team win.”
DAVID ORTIZ ON FOX: *smiling devilishly, holding up a vial* “If the Yankees win, I’m going to release this serum into the water supply.”
It’s essentially porn for the MAGA base. This is exactly what they voted for: images of the people they hate being brutalized and killed, so they can experience a libidinal release, and catharsis, all from the comfort of their beds with an iPhone four inches from their faces.
In the past three months, the NYT has featured comments from James Carville, David Plouffe & Bernie Sanders all calling for universal child care. That's basically every wing of the party. In a remarkably short period, universal child care has become the mainstream Dem position -- and in a format that increasingly includes proposals to support kin caregivers & stay-at-home parents -- and I'm here for it.
