Today's #InternationalPersonsWithDisabilitiesDay

Special needs.
Special education.
Special transportation.
The word “special” is not another word for “disabled people.”
“Special” is a way of saying that disabled people will be othered, segregated and devalued.
Thanks to @ramraajh and @CBCOntMorning for interviewing me about my memoir Fractured (@_secondstory) and my experiences living with an acquired disability.

A car accident changed @Smock18's life forever, coming up we'll chat with the Kingston resident about her new memoir that explores how an acquired disability altered the way she moved through life, and what she learned along the way about how disabilities are treated in society.

Telling a disabled person that you don’t see their disability is not the compliment you think it is.
The unwillingness to see disability is a devaluation of disability.

Access is not a “special need.”
