Later they held services at the basilica in downtown Denver that spilled out onto the sidewalk. I closed the office and my mostly atheist employees and I all went over to join the crowd. Just wanted to be together and be sad with the whole city and country.
I remember I was in an elevator on my way to work, worried over Bronco Eddie McCaffrey's injury on Monday Night football, when I heard the news. Had the TV on watching when the towers fell. A singular feeling I never want to come anywhere close to again.
