June 25th commemoration protests Heatmaps:
The protests were witnessed in at least 21 counties largely affecting urban and peri-urban areas, with Nairobi as the epicenter.
Places that historically had fewer or no recorded protests also emerged as flashpoints.
Use of goons to quell protests will soon come biting ; good for short-term and tactical gains but in the long run spiral beyond state control.
A state must maintain monopoly of violence and must never donate it.
This is how organised criminal gangs (OCGs) start. See Bakassi Boys and Area Boys of Nigeria started as vigilantes with state backing and eventually extortion racket. See G9 gangs of Haiti which originated with political endorsement but now control large swathes of Port-au-Prince and the government has virtually no control over them.
OCGs loyalty is to Money, Not Ideology, when taps run dry they will look for new channels.
If left unchecked soon Nairobi streets will be equivalent to some streets of South Africa. You will be robbed in broad day light. We are pavimg way for violent extremism same that @NCTC_Kenya has been fighting.
Short term gains over strategic interest - Tacticianism in securing a nation ! - Nauseating.
