Nigeria takes another important step towards advancing its climate ambitions!

At the launch of Nigeria’s third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) and the inaugural Interministerial Steering Committee meeting in Abuja, our Res. Rep. @ElsieAttafuah reaffirmed @UNDP’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in translating its climate ambitions into concrete action.

NDC 3.0 presents an opportunity to unlock climate finance, accelerate clean energy solutions, strengthen climate resilience and protect livelihoods while driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

There is much to learn from those who have led the @UN and helped shape its journey.

It was an honour to meet former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Vienna to hear his perspective from his time at the helm of the UN and to exchange views on a changing world, the evolution of organized crime, and how the UN in Vienna can bring its expertise together to tackle today’s challenges.

We also discussed his continued work through @bankimoon_org to advance global cooperation and build a more sustainable and peaceful world.

Met with H.E. Ghasaq Shaheen, the UAE’s Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, to discuss strengthening cooperation across humanitarian crises. Strong partnerships are essential to overcoming barriers to aid and reaching people in need. @UAEUN

Together with @KBStGovt, we convened the Phase II co-creation workshop of the North West Prevention Facility (NWPF) that brought stakeholders to identify priority interventions and pilot locations for stabilization.

The focus in this Phase is to translate these priorities into practical action that addresses conflict and displacement, strengthens community resilience, restores livelihoods and consolidates lasting peace.

We thank the @GERinNigeria for their continued support.

Katsina State’s Climate Change Policy marks an important step towards strengthening climate resilience, protecting livelihoods and advancing climate-smart agriculture. It also recognises the links between climate pressures, competition over natural resources and insecurity.

Speaking on behalf of @UNDP 🇳🇬, the Head of the Northwest Office, @AshrafUsman_ emphasised that lasting peace requires addressing the underlying drivers of instability. The priority now is to turn the policy’s commitments into practical action that strengthens community resilience, supports sustainable livelihoods and helps consolidate peace.

Young people took centre stage at today's #TrustSummit2026.

My message to #AfricanYouth is clear:

"Every single choice that you make can contribute to creating a world that can be better trusted, so keep participating."

Lagos has welcomed me with open arms and a very full calendar!

This week on Elsie’s Weekly Rundown, I’m sharing a glimpse of what’s ahead; conversations on reimagining education, advancing energy and climate action, and the partnerships making progress possible.

I’ll wrap up the week back in Abuja, marking World Mental Health Day and reflecting on why mental wellbeing matters to us all.

I also mentioned an artistic masterpiece I’m looking forward to creating, so do check back to see how it turns out!

Friends, wishing you a week of purpose and possibility.

The future of higher education lies in connecting knowledge, research and innovation to real-world solutions.

The 6th University of Lagos International Week highlights the importance of building stronger links between academia, industry and national development.

Through partnerships such as the @UNILAG AI UniPod and the emerging Nigeria Innovation Platform, @UNDP is working with partners to unlock opportunities for young innovators, transform ideas into solutions and strengthen pathways to decent work and sustainable development.

The world grows wider when every girl is free to dream and when her childhood is protected and hers to shape.

#DayOfTheGirlChild

[United Nations Nigeria @UN_Nigeria]

Every girl deserves education, dignity, & the chance to shape her own future. On this Int'l Day of the Girl Child, let’s unite to end child marriage & invest in girls’ rights, because when girls rise, the nation rises. Let’s break barriers & build a 🇳🇬 where every girl thrives.

200,000 people displaced in Yemen since August alone. The crisis has sharply worsened.

Yemen has endured a decade of this. Concern is not enough.

In my first briefing to the Security Council: Protect civilians. Open the roads. Fund the response. Find a political solution.

Great news for young Nigerians!

Today, we signed an MoU with @CiscoNetAcad under the @NigeriaJFP, a @NigeriaGov initiative funded by the @EUinNigeria and implemented by @UNDP.

The partnership opens the door for up to 50,000 #NJFP Fellows and Alumni to access Cisco’s Networking Academy to build their digital skills that employers need and strengthening their readiness for the world of work.

We appreciate the leadership of the Office of the Vice President @officialSKSM in advancing youth employability and championing partnerships that invest in young Nigerians.

Together, we are helping young Nigerians turn their talent into opportunity.

[Elsie Attafuah @ElsieAttafuah]

Where technology and young people’s ingenuity converge, innovation moves beyond promise.

The MoU between @Cisco and @UNDPNigeria, through @NigeriaJFP, will help equip young Nigerians with future-ready digital skills and strengthen pathways from learning to earning, from potential to productivity, and from ideas to enterprise.

I thank @NigeriaGov, under the leadership of H.E. @officialSKSM, and Mr. Abdelaziz Saidu @CiscoNigeria, for their commitment to expanding opportunity for young Nigerians.

I also acknowledge the enduring partnership of @EUinNigeria and the unwavering commitment to supporting inclusive growth, skills development and expanded opportunities for young people.

[Elsie Attafuah @ElsieAttafuah]

The @EUinNigeria's steadfast partnership has been instrumental in moving the needle on youth employment and dev't finance, turning shared ambitions into tangible opportunities for Nigerians.

Thank you to H.E. @GautierMignot2 for a productive meeting.

We welcomed joint progress with @NigeriaGov and states through the valued partnership between the @EUinNigeria, @UNDPNigeria and the wider @UN_Nigeria system.

Building on progress made so far, we explored further cooperation on green finance, MSME financing, investment facilitation, development finance mobilization, and responsible development of critical minerals.

My appreciation to @EUinNigeria for the partnership in advancing @NigeriaGov’s development aspirations.

A more peaceful, resilient and prosperous Lake Chad Basin is within reach when humanitarian action, development and peacebuilding advance together.

As @UN_Nigeria RC/HC a.i., it was a pleasure to connect with the @UN family and leadership from the Lake Chad Basin for the Nexus Fund Facility board meeting.

Our discussions focused on strengthening the Nexus approach, aligning partners, resources and interventions around shared priorities to address immediate needs while building resilience and longer-term solutions.

Thanks to @UN_Cameroon RC/HC @IssaSanogoUN and colleagues from the Lake Chad Basin for an impactful meeting.
