Be very cautious when the person you are interviewing with displays enthusiasm that is over-the-top or performative, lacking authenticity or depth, self-centered, or disproportionate to the situation. This could be a sign of possible future drama, conflict, or manipulation in the workplace.

The inability to accept responsibility is a very undesirable trait in anyone who an employer might hire. It can be an indication of a personality disorder, particularly those in Cluster B. But, even if it’s only due to anxiety, depression, or a general personality trait, it’s a mistake to hire. They likely will blame others, disrupt team dynamics, hinder problem-solving, take extra time to manage, and more. This is why interviewers ask about a candidate’s weakness, a time they received criticism, what their biggest mistake was, etc.
