Automation for consumers, workers, etc, while it makes life more convenient, makes humans too comfortable. I do not think all jobs will implement these types of changes, but some certainly will. These would take some jobs from people, and would grow out further. #Soca1017D2
https://t.co/oseTOUALFk . This article details the advantages and disadvantages of online schooling. Since it talks about some flaws in the education system, it has some relation to this weeks topic. We see both the good and bad of a popular aspect in education.
I cannot imagine a society without the categories of "male" and "female." We are all (mostly) accustomed to the existing categories of gender. The process of changing this would take years. It has taken centuries for society to even accept ... #Soca1017D2#ConstructingGender
I would certainly indicate my race as white for the upcoming Census. I know I have Italian, Irish, and German in my background, and I know this from https://t.co/lb9iSG5yT8 and also family lore. The additional options for white people in the Census is new, but (cont) #Soca1017D2
While social stratification is immoral, it serves a vital purpose. Our society would have no experience in any other type of social living. The classes are so normalized now that people would not know how to live. #Soca1017D2#ClasslessSociety
While people would all be equal and earn similar/exact wages, there would be tensions between those who were once upper-class and those coming from the poorer classes. All of this is petty, but humans are petty creatures. Though equality would be in place ...
Societies efforts to decrease these acts of cyberbullying will be helpful, but to believe this would solve the crisis would be naive. The web is too vast and far reaching to completely regulate. This is a sad reality. #Soca1017D2#OnlineDeviance
Aside from minor arguments with people I know via social media, I have never been cyber-bullied. However, like doxing, cyberbullying altogether should be outlawed. There should be penalties of fines and even jail time, depending on the seriousness. (see reply)
We, most likely, are all aware of the "Tide Pod Challenge." This was quite literally a challenge of eating Tide Pods... This is very crazy, but it shows how the internet can influence and connect a group of people and cause an epidemic like so. https://t.co/ScGhUqxMyc
This meme I made shows impression management. On one side, “I” am posing as happy online. On the other, “I” am actually not happy whatsoever in my real life. Social media can be used to appear happier to the outside world than you actually are. #Soca1017D2#theself
headlines for the past few years on if he is going to retire. He, but more significantly Hulu, used this to their advantage and gain. This shows how far companies will go to push for their product and take advantage of us, the consumer. It is a great strategy though. #SOCA1017D2
Of all of the ads shown during Super Bowl Sunday, this one: https://t.co/J7QusquGPL really stuck out to me. It not only pulls in the consumers of sports, but it brings in those who use streaming services like Hulu. Tom Brady has been in sports ... #ConsumerCulture#SOCA1017D2
@JackLemon21 Hey Jack! Your results are interesting and I see a trend of NASA coming up for most of the class! This is strange because I’m sure a lot of us don’t use their site very often. Thoughts?
@CarlieDiserio Hey Carlie, our results are similar. We both were offered and referred to news sites, along with NASA. This must be due to our common interactions with news sites, along with the government most likely pushing NASA to the users as well. #soca1017d2#filterbubbles
Continued) I would personally prefer news sources. And NASA was shown due to the Government’s push for their platform. That is a guess but... I don’t know. #soca1017D2#filterbubble
When I googled “climate change,” it directed me toward mostly credible sources, to a degree. It gave me USA Today and BBC News at first. Then it recommended NASA sources. I think these were my resulted because I use news sites very often. Thus, it believed that #soca1017D2
