Message from Dr Christina Mills of Social Work Solutions Canada:
I spent most of last week in Ottawa with incredible colleagues from across Canada as part of the CASW Federation meeting (CASW board, regulators and board presidents from across the country).
I am honoured to have the privilege of serving as the Ontario representative on the Canadian Association of Social Workers.
This year marks 100 years of CASW and social worker contributions to supporting Canadians.
'Reflecting on our Past, Re-imagining Our Future' was the theme of our week, that included several meetings with Members of Parliament as part of our advocacy work.
Congratulations to a very deserving woman, Senator Wanda Thomas-Bernard, who received a special recognition with being presented with the Glenn Drover Award, the highest CASW recognition.
The Senator is a woman I hold near and dear to my heart as an influential professor when I completed my MSW at Dalhousie University. Her influence has been profound for me, both in my professional practice and in life.
Thanks to all my colleagues for all you do to improve the lives of Canadians. ❤️

We hold heavy in our hearts today the death of Gunner Sebastian Halmagean during his service in Latvia.
Behind every uniform is an individual whose legacy will impact many. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, fellow serving members and all who love and care for him as the pain of his death is immeasurable.
We are reminded that those who show up to preserve our freedoms do so with risk. Please care for one another and seek support as needed. Thank you for your service Gunner.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year from our team at Social Work Solutions Canada in Hamilton. As we begin 2026, we look forward to providing ongoing care and support. We are even equipped with new tools, such as the wisdom from these Freudian 'slip'pers!🤣~ Dr. Christina
On Remembrance Day we pause to honour all who serve and have served. Thank you for your service.
For the families who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and continue to feel the pain, know you are always in our thoughts. We wish you strength today and everyday, as you honour your loved ones.
Photo is Dr. Christina's father, Ret. Lieutenant (Navy) Joseph Schopf. We send special love to you today, Dad, for all the sacrifices you have made to serve our country. We are all proud of you.

In this season of change, we carve out time for thanks, gratitude and soon remembrance.
Please consider taking a moment to reflect on this impactful song written and shared by Nicolas Stone reminding us of those that serve community and country selflessly - but also the costs of caring in doing so.
To all those that 'run' - Thank you ❤️ ~ Dr. Christina
At the 10th Annual Invisible Wounds Mental Wellness Conference for First Responders and Clinicians October 6-7, 2025 in Niagara Falls, Canada, Nicolas Stone, the audio video technician for the event for the past few years, was moved to write a song that was played for the delegates, resulting in a standing ovation.
Nic has given Invisible Wounds permission to share this song publicly on our social media channels. We are very grateful to Nic, who has provided the following description of the song:
STILL THEY RUN
This song was written in tribute to all first responders - police, fire fighters, 911 dispatch operators, ER doctors and nurses, military, paramedics, ambulance drivers - any and all those who answer the call.
The purpose of the song is to bring awareness to the silent, invisible wounds that many first responders experience in life because of what they do.
While we all see them as heroes - we never think of what they experience and how it can affect them when the emergency is over!
To all our heroes - this is for you!
Dr. Christina Mills of Social Work Solutions Canada in Hamilton, is attending her first Federation Meeting this weekend with the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, as the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) representative nationally.
Christina is attending alongside the OASW, CEO - Ajirioghene Evi and OASW board president - Evelyn Weger.
The meeting is fortunate to be hosted by the Black Cultural Centre in the Preston Townships (one area where African Nova Scotians were settled, as opposed to choosing to settle), as part of the CASW's commitment to anti-racism and reconciliation.
It was especially heartwarming for Christina to witness the new feature exhibit at the Centre, "Portraits" - Stories of Black Canadian Military Service.
A fallen soldier Christina holds a special place in her heart for, Mark Anthony Graham, is from Hamilton, and was prominently featured on a banner at the exhibit.
The CASW continues to drive the profession of Social Work forward nationally. Christina thanks everyone who made this valuable weekend a reality, and she looks forward to continuing to contribute to the dialogue to strengthen the social work profession through her Board memberships provincially and nationally.
Honouring the hard work at the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) this weekend.
This was reflected in their AGM and board meeting.
Dr. Christina Mills proudly serves on the board, supporting the strategic directions that will help drive the profession forward.
Christina looks forward to the growth and innovation of the board over the next year as she steps in the executive role of Secretary/Treasurer.
A very warm welcome as well to all the new OASW board members joining the team. 😃
