Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach & skill are under a global spotlight as it leads efforts to mediate an end to the US war on Iran.
Running silently in the background of the visible spectrum is Pakistan’s Foreign Service, which is quite possibly the finest such service in the Global South & more than a match for the vastly better resourced diplomatic services of developed countries.
Here are four books by Pakistan Foreign Service officers that you should read to get a better understanding of Pakistan’s challenges and its role in the world:
1. Abdul Sattar’s concise history of Pakistani foreign policy

Let us draw inspiration from our shuhada and ghazis to defend and rebuild Pakistan with the same Spirit of September, and in line with the vision of our Quaid, Muhammad Ali Jinnah by embracing the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion to chart a course towards a brighter future for our beloved Pakistan.

Pakistan's Foreign Service fraternity is today mourning Dr. Diyar Khan. A distinguished diplomat, Dr. Khan served the nation for over 28 years. He was Pakistan’s Ambassador to Argentina and Consul General in Guangzhou, China. He also served at Pakistan’s Missions in Beijing, Kabul, Sana’a, Rome and the United Nations, New York. His professionalism, impeccable integrity and dedication to public service were truly admirable. He will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Dr. Diyar Khan.
