On 23rd of July 2025, my family and I experienced deeply unfair and discriminatory treatment from @aegeanairlines and @HeathrowAirport while traveling from Heathrow to Athens.
Despite our dog — a 3.5 kg toy poodle in an IATA-compliant carrier — having flown twice before with @aegeanairlines without issue, we were suddenly denied cabin travel without any objective basis. This resulted in:
•Forced family separation – I had to fly alone with our toddler while my husband reorganized travel across Europe with the dog and eventually flying without an issue from Brussels airport AGAIN with @aegeanairlines .
•Significant financial losses (flights, ferry tickets, fuel, hotels).
•Threatening and discriminatory conduct by Heathrow airport ground staff, including inappropriate remarks and unjustified warnings.
•Hidden disability discrimination, as the dog is an ESA (Emotional Support Animal).
We filed a formal complaint on 31 July, supported by receipts and evidence. @aegeanairlines promised a reply within 10 working days. Today, 4 September, more than a month later, we have received no reply at all – despite repeated calls and reminder emails where we were only told the case was “in progress.”
For a national flag carrier that markets itself on philoxenia (hospitality), this silence is shameful and deeply disappointing.
We have now escalated the matter to the UK Civil Aviation Authority, the Hellenic CAA, the European Consumer Centre, and disability rights organizations.
This is not just about us – it is about ensuring that airlines cannot abuse discretionary power, ignore passenger rights, or discriminate against hidden disabilities.
