ALERT: Police received unexpected assistance from an alligator after a man fled a DWI stop, then jumped off a freeway into a swamp.

Victor Rivas, 40, was stopped by the Louisiana State Police for a suspected DWI after several reports of a reckless driver who ran into a concrete barrier and had blown a tire.

Rivas fled the scene on foot and jumped off the freeway overpass and into a swamp.

Officers tracked down Rivas below, and he ran into the swamp where he was bitten in both arms by an alligator, but despite the injuries, Rivas continued to flee from officers, who found him later using drones.

Rivas was transferred to a hospital in non-life-threatening conditions after being charged with DWI and resisting an officer.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, about 1,000 vehicles have been consumed in the inferno, with potentially 1,000 more at risk. No injuries have been reported so far. Local residents are advised to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and turn off air conditioning systems to prevent exposure to the toxic smoke.
