My aunt (72 year old widow) had her house broken into last night.
5 men.
Terrorised her with a gun for an hour. Broke her finger for her wedding ring, ripped her earrings from her ears. Tortured her for an hour. Ransacked the house.
We thankfully are grateful she is still alive.

South Africa is dangerous.

We believe that only one of two scenarios is now possible in the dispute between South Africa and the USA. Solidarity is fighting for the first scenario, but with a government doing everything to bring about the second, the outlook is increasingly bleak:

Scenario one: a negotiated correction. Pretoria finds enough flexibility to move on the Trump administration's five asks and not to abolish transformation as a social aspiration, but to stop using race as a permanent administrative caste system; to ring-fence property rights; to police rural terror and to drop the theatrical anti-Western diplomacy. In that world, tariffs ease, AGOA stays, investment returns and civic organisations like ours become inconvenient domestic partners rather than foreign interlocutors. We would play a part in that settlement if we were allowed to. We have already drafted the outlines. The obstacle is not a lack of paper. It is a lack of political will in the Union Buildings.

Scenario two: a deepening rift. Pretoria chooses dignity over jobs. Washington chooses pressure over patience. Then the menu expands: exclusion from trade preferences, higher tariffs, shrinking health and development money, possible targeted sanctions, procurement bans, a colder investment climate and a brain drain that no press conference can reverse. The people who will suffer first will not be cabinet ministers. They will be assembly-line workers, fruit packers, mine artisans and nurses.

We work every week to make the first scenario more likely than the second. That is community diplomacy and a South African First approach. The government has a monopoly on appointing ambassadors. It does not have a monopoly on the national interest.

Can I secure a place at university based solely on my scholarly achievements without ticking a race box? The answer is no.
Can I apply for a water license for agricultural use? The answer is no.

The country’s laws are not being misrepresented. The country’s leaders are misrepresenting the laws.

We elect politicians who deliver services, not promises.
We elect politicians who reward tax payers instead of throttling them.
We elect politicians who understand economics, not ideology.
We elect politicians who unite, not divide.
We elect politicians who understand that education is more vital than the welfare state.

Until then, the nation will continue to get what it votes for.

Much like the word “racist”, we laugh at the mere mention of it, because 99.9% of the time, it is used to manipulate, coerce and distort for political gain, where under ANC, only the connected elites prosper.

Yeah... it got out of hand. 👀

It now has a name:

BEElantir - South Africa’s public B-BBEE evidence database

What started as a simple list is becoming a searchable system that connects public B-BBEE records, company entities, JSE links, banks, media groups, PIC relationships, historical changes and the actual evidence behind every entry.

Not just:

“Company X is Level 1.”

But:

Which legal entity?
According to which document?
When was it issued?
What changed since then?
What other public relationships connect to that entity?

Every record should be traceable back to its source.

Some of the best additions so far have come directly from the comment section, including ideas like tracking PIC board representation and other public relationship data. If you believe you can contribute something useful to the initiative, research, public records, technical help, data ideas or another angle I may have missed, DM me.

Good suggestions can help shape where BEElantir goes next.
