Ella has been running this year since February 6 2026 when she won her 200 meters heat at the New Mexico Classics. Her collegiate appearances spanned five months ending in the late June NCAA finals . And then there was the Commonwealth Games and other meets. Just like Ajayi she deserves a bouquet of flowers for her staying power and perseverance despite receiving little or no technical or moral support from an inept Nigeria federation at the end of the NCAA finals when support from hercollege- at least for the season - ended

Although she didn't qualify for the final in the women's 400m at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, Ella Onojuvwevwo is still grateful to close her season with a 50s and glad to be among the best in the world in her event.

Former All Africa Games 100 meters champion Raymond Ekewvo is reportedly , alongside others, being deported to Nigeria soon after serving jail time for wire fraud scam.
With Godson Brume in jail for assault and illegal possession of firearms, amongst other charges, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria should educate athletes headed to the US that, unlike Nigeria. perceived criminal behaviour in the US will not only land you in jail in a New York minute ,but ruin your life for good.

Ajayi has had a long. long season. The kid needs a break. He has probably been running every weekend since April in the collegiate meets leading up to the NCAA finals. Most collegiate athletes peak in June, and it is then downhill from there. Also, we must hope there were no distractions for him. Example: In 1987. Innocent Egbunike was favored to win the 400 gold at the Worlds in Rome after posting 44.16 in the semis But on the eve of the finals, govt delegations started visiting him in his hotel room up till 2 am reminding him of the importance of winning the gold for Nigeria. Egbunike could not get enough sleep and ended up finishing second to Thomas Schonlebe of then East Germany. Probably Ajayi did not have similar distractions and just suffered from a long long season schedule.

@FieldVs54078 @aiu_athletics Tanzania actually won two silver medals at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The second, aside Filbert Bayi's, was by Suleiman Nyambui in the men's 5000-meter race. An East African almost power house in the distances , Tanzania has also won gold medals in the C'wealth Games.
