Finally the Supreme Court’s written order regarding Imran Khan’s medical treatment, access to his own physician and his family is out.

It is an important assertion of judicial responsibility and must now be implemented fully, immediately and in letter and spirit.

And to me the order also raises a wider question.

Is pressure beginning to build on Asim Munir from more than one direction, perhaps externally from Washington, and internally from within his own Army High Command?

There are enough unusual institutional signals for this assertion.

The prolonged delay before Aamer Raza was finally elevated to four-star rank as Commander National Strategic Command in late July 2026, 8 months after the post was created.

The continuing absence, 21 days, so far, of a publicly announced successor to him in the Army’s critically important CGS appointment. In the past the incoming CGS is appointed simultaneously with the departure of the previous incumbent.

The CGS is the nerve center of the Army. All operational commands flow from it. Not having a CGS for 21 days is unprecedented.

And the absence of any announced VCOAS/DCOAS arrangement despite the post-27th Constitutional Amendment command framework expressly providing for one.

I don't believe there is an administrative explanation for all the three appointments.

The CGS is the most critical Army High Command 3 Star appointment and no appointment points to an unusual degree of uncertainty at the very apex of Pakistan’s military command.

And Asim's insecurity in not finding a loyalist from amongst the current 3 star lot.

He may appoint a newly promoted Maj. Gen loyalist, when the current lot of about 11 Lt. Generals are due to retire in October, 2026. Again a sign of serious fear and insecurity

While today’s Supreme Court order should be welcomed on its own merits, it should also be watched carefully as part of a potentially larger shift in the political and institutional space surrounding Asim Munir.

Especially perhaps orders from DC as well. The only other stakeholder he fears, other than his own generals.

The hangman's noose may have tightened, slightly, today.
