The monitor emits a steady beep as a nurse inserts a thin needle into the tiny arm of Claudia, a premature infant weighing 900 g. She does not cry. She is too immature and tired to do so. Instead, she furrows her brow, her pulse quickens, and she arches her legs slightly. These small gestures signal pain, even though she cannot say a word. The scene could take place in any neonatal unit and capture one of medicine’s greatest challenges: recognizing suffering when a patient cannot say that they are in pain.
Medicine can measure parameters such as glucose, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation with great precision; however, pain cannot be measured in the same way. Pain assessment depends largely on a patient’s ability to describe what they are feeling, where it hurts, and how severe the pain is, often using a scale of 1-10.
However, what happens when a patient cannot provide the answer? How can clinicians prevent suffering when pain signals are difficult to interpret? Every day, infants, children with developmental disorders, patients with dementia, and sedated patients depend on others to recognize signs that may not be obvious. Recognizing pain in these patients is a major challenge in pain medicine because identifying suffering is the first step toward treatment. https://t.co/78dy2r5lQ5
Recent guidelines give a class 1 indication (strongly recommended) to calcium score testing and Lp(a) testing. The effectiveness of both in improving outcomes has now been unsubstantiated in randomized trials.
Should they be downgraded in the guidelines? Why or why not?
Summer has ended. The practices that finish the year strong treat fall as a launch point — not a coast to the finish. Time for a strategic reset. #StrategicReset#PracticeManagement
Q3 ends in one month. Q4 is where practices make or miss their annual numbers. Do not let Q3 close on autopilot — close it with intention. #QuarterEnd#PracticeFinance
A provider who cannot bill cannot generate revenue. Credentialing is not paperwork — it is revenue infrastructure. Start early. #Credentialing#RevenueCycleManagement
Every struggling practice has a hero holding it together. That hero is also its greatest vulnerability. The best practices make heroics unnecessary. #ScalableSystems#HealthcareLeadership
Marketing without measurement is not investment. It is hope with a budget. Do you know your cost per acquired patient by channel? #MarketingROI#HealthcareMarketing
Real workplace wellness is not a perk. It is structural. A gym reimbursement does not offset a workplace that runs people into the ground. #WorkplaceWellness#NationalWellnessMonth
By the time an external audit finds a problem, it is already expensive. Audit yourself first. Prevention always costs less than remediation. #InternalAudit#HealthcareCompliance
The first impression a patient forms is not the provider. It is the paperwork. A modern practice should not run on clipboards. #DigitalIntake#HealthcareTech
Caring for seniors well requires operational excellence, not just compassion. Honoring them means meeting their needs with dignity and precision. #SeniorCitizensDay#GeriatricCare
"We thought we had a revenue problem. Solstice Group showed us we had a systems problem." Sometimes the answer is not more. It is better. #ClientTestimonial#HealthcareConsulting
Volume without strategy is just a busy season. Volume with strategy is growth. Convert back-to-school patients into lasting relationships. #PatientRetention#PracticeGrowth
A predictable surge is only stressful when unplanned. Back-to-school season is a revenue opportunity — if your capacity is ready. #ChildrensEyeHealth#BackToSchool
Vendors count on inertia. Every year you do not review a contract is a year they assume you will keep paying. Audit them. #VendorManagement#CostControl
Intuition built many practices. It will not sustain them. The ones pulling ahead replace "I think" with "the data shows." #DataDrivenDecisions#HealthcareAnalytics
Setting fees too low does not attract more patients. It forfeits revenue you were entitled to collect. Your fee schedule is a strategic lever. #FeeSchedule#RevenueOptimization
A vaccine expiring on the shelf is not just clinical. It is lost revenue and wasted capital. Manage immunization like the financial program it is. #ImmunizationAwarenessMonth#VaccineManagement
A practice barely survived a payer audit. A year after partnering with Solstice Group: a follow-up review with zero findings. Compliance is certainty, not fear. #HealthcareCompliance#SolsticeGroup
An outdated employee handbook is a liability waiting to surface. When a personnel dispute arises, it is your first line of defense. Consistency is protection. #EmployeeHandbook#HRCompliance
