I might have accidentally found something that contradicts a research paper from the Journal of Experimental Biology, but I'm not jumping to conclusions yet.

This is the spider's POV, watching a real fruit fly's actual escape neurons fire in real time.

That black square isn't a threat. It's not even solid. But The LC4 and LPLC2 neurons don't know that, they only see something growing bigger, fast. So the brain does exactly what real fly neurons do: it jumps and tries to fly/Run.

You're not watching an animation. You're watching real synapses decide, live, from inside its own eyes.

Turns out actual fly neurons don't judge danger by distance! they judge it by how fast a threat is growing in their vision. Ours was using flat distance/speed, so a big slow object and a small fast one looked identical to it. That's not how a real fly brain works.
I Rebuilt the input to feed the real math (angular expansion rate) into the same real neurons with no shortcuts. It now reacts differently based on actual size, not just speed. Still tuning reaction timing.
Its a Small fix, but it's the difference between "reacts to movement" and "actually sees."
