Donald Trump has done a lot of terrible things to this country over the last decade. But here’s what I think is most insidious of all:

Trump has taught Americans that cruelty is strength, that resentment is identity, and that hating other people somehow makes you superior. 

He has created a permission structure for people to be their worst selves.
