I have never played a Final Fantasy game, so I was excited to try the demo for XVI. I played for an hour, 50 minutes of which I was watching cut scenes, and I confusedly wondered what I was missing.

This video informed me that I was missing nothing, and I feel vindicated.

My hot take is Lightfall’s NARRATIVE failed to compellingly set up its core mysteries, characters and settings to the point its resolution felt meaningless.

To me, Destiny *campaigns* often feel lackluster or serviceable.

My feelings are less anti-nostalgia and more pro-evolution.

Nostalgia has value, but often comes at the cost of originality or integrity.

Here, it doesn’t detract from the plot of the S3 mystery box, but it takes up so much space that whole characters, plot lines and backstories were dismissed so it could happen.

That’s a big impact.
