Scientific & political illiteracy bothers me. I used to hate the binomial theorem. We're friends now. Marginally successful golf bettor. Traffic sucks.
Its a trivial derivation: If x=w/l (a), y=sos (a) then WP'(a) is given as follows: WP'(a)=xy/(1-x-y+2xy), a deceptively simple function with extraordinary utility. Normdist (mov) is an alternative to w/l. I call this the xy transform. Obvious credit to Bill James @lloyddanzig
@GolfMonthly #11 Bennett Valley...174yds. Two months later I happened to have dinner with Rich Beem (pre Genesis Ace)...4 people at dinner. 3 aces, Rich didnt have one. When Rich found out I had one (18hdcp) he hit me in the arm. Hard. Middle of dinner. Definitely worth it!!
@HarryDCrane Isnt this a variation of Kelly Criterion calculation? Bet A has -8.51% expectation per bet whereas Bet B has a -7.07% yield per bet....a side by side 20 bet simulation 11 wins v 19 wins should demonstrate this. Therefore you bleed out slower with B despite the negative EV.
@LouStagner Isnt this table course handicap (slope, course rating) dependent? Or is that implied? Second is there a formula that expresses sigma in terms of handicap? Looks like a 30+ hdcp has a higher sigma than a scratch.
@BrianKirschner_ Exporting results for data analysis is now very difficult...it would be nice to be able to switch to "classic view". Also the white background is a bit much, a "dark mode" option would also be nice.
@RickRunGood Using field size & strength adjusted metrics, Patrick Cantlay dominates in Top 10 finishes. Per my metrics, no one close, not even Rory. Not exciting to watch which creates a little extra betting value.
@EdinaRealCHE@fantasynational I used datagolf last year, lots of data. Getting past data through the API takes a bit of sorcery. Still I like it for backtesting. Dont really remember their predictive models or ROI. If it had been a strong ROI (X>10%) I would've remembered. Good customer service.
