There are no currencies backed by a real asset any more. Bitcoin doesn't require a backing, it requires network participants.

@Maseb244 @mikealfred @PeterLBrandt I suspect you're trolling but if not - Bitcoin is a network that allows you to move value around the world permissionlessly. It abstracts value-transfer away from every conceivable government. If you don't care about that's cool. But it can't be said about gold.
