I wanted to dive deeper into this as a PT.

Turbo Richard's right leg got caught under a hip-drop tackle on the Indiana sideline. The NFL banned that tackle in 2024. College football hasn't. 👇

He tried to get up, went back down, and was helped to the medical tent. He hasn't been back on the field and Indiana hasn't given a diagnosis yet.

1️⃣ What the film shows
He's running along the sideline. The defender wraps him at the hips from behind and drops his weight straight down. From the film it's the right leg, and it looks like the ankle got rolled up on. His foot is still planted when the tackler lands on the back of that leg, and his body keeps going over it.

2️⃣ Why that's hard on an ankle
The foot is stuck in the turf. The shin gets driven forward over it while the body rotates. That forces the ankle to bend up and the foot to twist outward relative to the shin. That's the classic high ankle sprain mechanism.

3️⃣ What's at risk
Just above the ankle, the two lower leg bones (tibia and fibula) are held together by a group of ligaments called the syndesmosis. A twist over a fixed foot pries those bones apart.

Path A: high ankle sprain
The ligaments get stretched or partly torn, but the joint stays stable. Expect pain pushing off and cutting. These usually take weeks and run longer than a regular rolled ankle.

Path B: something more serious
The joint is unstable, the ligament on the inside of the ankle (the deltoid) is involved, or there's a fracture. Unstable ones often need surgery, like a suture button (tightrope) repair. Imaging decides which path this is.

4️⃣ What I'd look for this week
Walking without a boot. A single-leg calf raise on that side without pain. Then cutting.

Ligaments heal in stages: inflammation, then new collagen, then months of remodeling. Cutting twists those new fibers the most, so it comes last.

5️⃣ Why this tackle gets singled out
This isn't about calling anyone dirty. When a tackler drops his full weight onto a planted leg from behind, the runner's ankle has nowhere to go. The NFL decided that technique can be coached out.

Takeaway: the late hit got the attention, but the injury looks like it happened a moment earlier, when the leg got pinned under the fall.

Today, for the first time ever, the University of Notre Dame was consecrated to Sacred Heart of Jesus.

After celebrating Mass in an overflowing Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Bishop Kevin Rhoades led students, Holy Cross priests, faculty and members of the wider community in a Eucharistic procession around campus. Then, on “God Quad”, before a statue of the Sacred Heart that looks up to the Blessed Mother on the Golden Dome, Bishop Rhoades led the group in the act of consecration, with Notre Dame president Fr. Bob Dowd by his side.

Despite the Congregation of the Holy Cross and Notre Dame’s historic connection to the Sacred Heart, the university has never before been consecrated. And it likely wouldn’t have been today, without the initiative of students, who were inspired by the US bishops’ consecration of the nation, and approached ND administrators to do something similar on campus.

As Bishop Rhoades put it, “Devotion to the Sacred Heart is in the DNA of Notre Dame.”

And now, Our Lady’s university is consecrated to the Sacred Heart of her Son.
