Working on an animated short film called Loihi

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]

IM MAKING AN ANIMATED SHORT FILM! And it’s gonna have rocket launches and realistic orbital mechanics and moon landings and anthro animals and it’s called Loihi! And even though I’m setting aside many hours every day to animating it, I still would like some help!
If you wanna voice act, or help me with the gargantuan amount of artwork that needs to be made to get this thing complete like concept art, storyboards, backgrounds (2D or 3D for all of these) I’d appreciate it immensely! I can’t offer much besides a name in the credits and we won’t complete the finished product at least until next year, but it’ll be a hell of a cool feeling once it’s done!

@SpaceBasedFox WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN COOKING UP

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]

Dammit, forgot the lines on the floor in the second one

Working on backgrounds of a rocket factory for my film, Loihi. Had a tough time figuring out how to make such a big room feel interesting, but these patches of light on the floor and walls from some skylights felt really nice

@finzyy22 Just because that spacecraft was capable of being an SSTO doesn’t mean they’re launching it from Earth like that, they launched it atop a rocket so it would begin the mission with full propellant tanks

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]

@kireitonsi It just looks like a big Crew Dragon

I synced the new @SpaceX Starship catch animation to Life on Mars by David Bowie.

She litterally mentions companies and space industry in her “we choose Earth” speech because space colonization is the best possible thing that could heal Earth. If you’re against space mining or manufacturing, you really only care about the aesthetics of it and not the true cause of its harm, the effect it has on a living ecosystem.

Not to mention that the reason why we’re sending astronauts on lunar missions, something that easily can and has been done cheaper by robotic probes, is to investigate how humans can better live and work in space.

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]

>artemis larpers headcanonning that astronauts are actually against space colonization

Small scale government space activity: “justified scientific research”

Large-scale commercial space activity: “evil waste of money that should go to fixing Earth”

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]

@KezzieSquared Yeah those are the larpers

@kmh @DKiSAerospace the only reason why the universe can be learned is because of consciousness, if you aren't learning about space in the context of figuring out how to use it to ensure that consciousness carries on, what's even the point

French MPs have proposed a symbolic €1 budget line for Dassault's VORTEX spaceplane programme to press the government to clarify how it plans to fund the project.

Lmfao a guy on the r/rocketry Discord server just posted a gif made by a Blue Origin insider that not just contains a new leaked angle of the NG-4 RUD, but also an internal dev name of a project called “Northstar”

Been researching just what the hell has been going on with ESA’s Themis hopper and God damn, over 6 years for a Grasshopper equivalent planning on flying just a tenth of its altitude is a pretty dire. There’s apparently a chance that they get defunded if they miss the next deadline but it seems pretty likely that these don’t really mean anything and they’ll just get another extension if they don’t hop by the end of this year

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]

@fatyurilover300 How did you get it to be able to go forwards and backwards in a 2 block wide footprint since you wouldn’t be able to access the inside of the suspension block to connect the gearbox

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]

Also forgot to show this, but the ascent module can separate and head back to the transfer vehicle in orbit

[Gene @SpaceBasedFox]
