@SawyerMerritt FYI these all have drivers and steering wheels and they've been driving around Austin for months. We do have the driverless CyberCabs, but those seem to have just popped up in the last week or so, and there are less of them.

Yeah, I think the cellphone comparison fits really well. Autonomy is still in that early stage where the technology is improving in real time and people are learning what it can actually do. Once it becomes reliable, affordable, and widely available, I think we’ll look back and wonder how we ever considered driving everywhere ourselves as normal.

@SawyerMerritt I feel like we're at the point of adoption like with cell phones, where you know a few people that have one, and they still have rough rough edges in service. Then fast forward 20 years later and not only does everybody have a cellphone, but they do much more.

That’s the human side of this that can easily get lost in all the technology and numbers. If safer transportation can genuinely prevent crashes and help people get home safely to their families, that’s a benefit that goes far beyond convenience or economics. That’s ultimately what makes the pursuit of better safety so meaningful.
