It was a nuclear decision at the time… Michelin had not understood the effect of the new tyre rules they had agreed to. Starting that year all tyres had to be delivered to the circuit on or before the Thursday.. that meant Michelin could not make special tyres on a Saturday night based on the information from Friday and Saturday… that overnight delivery was the secret of their previous successes..
