On this day today, 39 yrs ago, 70+ Hindu passengers were taken out of buses, separated & roasted with bullets in a 24 hours window. Khalistani terror group KCF took responsibility. One Sikh politician in Majha - a 3 term MLA of Congress, Satnam Singh Bajwa - dared to condemn it. Promptly he was killed along with 4 others around him even though he had police protection.
Today his sons, Fatehjung Bajwa & Partap Singh Bajwa, are top leaders of BJP & INC in Punjab respectively. But - like @ManishTewari as well - they dare not name/condemn the Khalistanis who killed their dear father. OTOH, anybody can abuse KPS Gill & his - primarily Jat Sikh - men who brought back peace as their families making unspeakable sacrifices. Shows who was the terrorist & intolerant brutes then & even now. And who brought back music, dance, press freedom, democractic niceties & space to criticize - even most irresponsibly - in Punjab. Brought back from a point where it seemed all hope had been lost.

Here’s an example of what it was like in Punjab - esp in border districts of Majha - when state had evaporated & Khalistanis ruled the roost. A Sikh girl groveling to the seniors of her Khalistani tormentor so her life & further debasement - after her family had already been eliminated by that Khalistani - be spared.
I’ve translated her letter word for word below that was published in Punjabi Tribune in Oct 1991 & was much discussed then.
Incidentally, the man who finally brought peace in these border districts was SSP Ajit Singh Sandhu —the man demonized in the movie Satluj.

“Appeal in front of Militant brothers

Respected Panthic Committee of Sohan Singh Ji [this was like United Jihad Council of Kashmir; an umbrella group representing biggest Khalistani terror orgs back in the day with its leader Sohan Singh based in Pakistan], and the 4 militant groups supporting it, and Babbar Khalsa International Ji [this group from Canada bombed airliner AI182 midair]: It is due to your blessings that Bhai Dilsher Singh Shera (my father’s real younger brother) is the Lt. Gen of KCF (Panjwar). This is a very high position. On the other hand I am 18 years old, and from the now murdered at the hands of my uncle Lt General (Dilsher Singh Shera) - my father Late Dalbir Singh, Sarpanch of village Bala Chak, PO Chabba, District Amritsar & of my brother Sakkatar Singh (murdered 15/2/1990) & brother Maninder Singh (murdered 19/9/91) - I am their youngest daughter and sister.

On 19/9/91 my uncle (Lt Gen Dilsher Singh Shera), along with my brother Maninder Singh Bittu had killed my brother’s bother-in-law too.

Now my respected uncle (Bhai Dilsher Singh Shera), after killing and eliminating 4 members of our family, has sent us following messages:
a) I’ll abduct your womenfolk.
b) I’ll occupy your ancestral land.
c) I’ll kill this family and all its relatives to remove all trace of it.

Respected Panthic [religious] guardians, I am also a Sikh daughter. My widowed mother who was sick from a long time, after these deaths has been completely shattered. My father and my brothers were completely innocent.

I am national-level player of volleyball, and with the blessings of Vaheguru I had very bright future, but in-home destruction of our home, the situation of my widowed sister-in-laws and their orphaned children, has completely destroyed my future.

My respected uncle (Lt Gen Dilsher Singh Shera) neither lets us sow crops in the land, nor allows anyone who may take it up on lease or those who empathize with us to come near. We mother-daughters cannot do anything. In a way, begging-bowls have been forced into our hands. Neither for our brother who was murdered on 19/9/91 have we been able to perform Akhand Path Bhog ceremony for his spiritual peace.

I plead unto you and the entire religious community, that to Lt Gen Dilsher Singh Shera & his accomplice Dilbagh Singh Brar who was present with him during all these murders, you make them sit down and inquire why under the cover of militant wave, they’re eliminating us.

Khalistani Terr0rists Killed 19 Students at Thapar Engineering College at 2:30 AM.

Armed Khalistani Terr0rists stormed one of the country’s most prestigious engineering colleges before dawn Friday, killing 19 students asleep in a dormitory.

The militants, armed with Chinese-made AK-47 rifles, entered Thapar Engineering College and knocked on the door of the dormitory. When one of the students opened the door, the gunmen opened fire.

The victims were from colleges in neighboring states who had come to attend the school’s annual youth festival.

Nine students were from Kurukshetra University in the neighboring state of Haryana and 10 from a technical institute in Kanpur.

They won't show you that on this day, 7th July 1987, Hindu passengers travelling towards Rishikesh being lined up and massacred by Khalistani Commando Force (KCF) terrorists simply because they were Hindus.

They won't show you that within 24 hours, more than 72 innocent Hindus were s1aughtered in coordinated bus attacks

But don't be surprised if one day they make a film portraying "Kulwinder Singh Mahi" the mastermind of the Lalru massacre as nothing more than a "victim of an extrajudicial klling"

All this discussion on Sutluj movie brings back a unique memory from my childhood.

The Khalistani terrorists had started targeted killing of Hindus and one modus operandi was to stop buses, segregate Hindus, ask them to de-board, line them up, and then massacre them.

Himachal State Transport (HRTC) buses plying from HP to Punjab were also targeted.

Once I was sitting next to one of my maternal uncles who was reading the newspaper and it had news of one such massacre of Hindus.

And he suddenly burst out with anger and said (paraphrasing) - Whats the point of lining up like sheeps when you know you're going to be killed. Why not put up a fight and take down at one or two with you. As it is, you're doing to be dead soon.

These words and the memory have stayed with me even after so many decades.
